A Career Built on Protecting Others
Bureau Director, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
Douglas Retig, M.Ed served with distinction as Bureau Director for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department before retiring. His career gave him a deep understanding of the legal system, court processes, and the critical importance of maintaining safety and order — skills he brings directly to every supervised visitation he conducts.
Former Elementary and Middle School Teacher
Before his career with the Sheriff's Department, Douglas was a dedicated elementary and middle school teacher. This background gave him an exceptional foundation in child development, emotional intelligence, and the importance of nurturing healthy relationships between children and the adults in their lives. He understands how children think, feel, and respond — and he uses that knowledge every day.
14 Years as a Supervised Visitation Provider
Since retiring, Douglas has devoted himself to serving families in the California court system as a Professional Supervised Visitation Provider. Over 14 years, he has conducted over 1,500 visits, always maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and child-centered care as required by California Standard 5.20.
Father and Grandfather
Douglas is the proud father of 5 children and grandfather of 11 grandchildren. He doesn't just understand family from a professional standpoint — he lives it. This personal experience gives him a genuine empathy for both parents and children navigating difficult circumstances, and a deep commitment to preserving the parent-child bond in a safe environment.
My Personal Mission
"Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and emotionally secure — especially during challenging times. My goal is to provide an environment where children can enjoy meaningful time with their parents, free from fear or uncertainty. I take that responsibility seriously, and I bring my full professional background to every visit I monitor."
